Tennis Staff

Peter Mallet, Director of Tennis
Originally from Australia, Peter joins the Club with more than twenty-five years experience in professional tennis as a player, coach and manager. Peter grew up in the town of Gympie, Australia where he learned to play tennis. He played Junior Davis Cup for Australia with his friends Pat Cash (1987 Wimbledon Champion), Wally Masuar and John Fitzgerald, present Captain of the Austrian Davis Cup Team. Peter played on the professional circuit for several years. He was recruited and played for Oklahoma State where he won seven out of eight Big Eight Titles. He won six USTA 30’s National Championships during the years 1992-1994 and was ranked number one in 1992. In 2002, he won the National 30’s Indoor Doubles Championship.

Peter was the Director of Tennis at the Canyon Racket Club for a number of years before leaving and starting a career as a financial advisor. He has, however, always taught tennis part-time because of his love of the game. Peter is an incredibly knowledgeable teacher and loves to help people improve their tennis games. He has many ideas and programs for the junior and adult tennis programs that he is very excited about implementing to help make the Salt Lake Swimming and Tennis Club’s tennis programs some of the best in the country.

Mike Trabert
We're lucky to have a gentleman of Mike's caliber and talent a part of our staff. A USPTA Certified P-1 Professional, Mike's respectful, gentle nature can barely mask the powerfully talented tennis player and teacher underneath. Former Director of Tennis at the Salt Lake Swimming and Tennis Club. Former Director of Tennis at Pebble Beach. Former Director of Tennis at Carmel Valley Ranch. 1999 USPTA Northern California Pro of the Year. 1998 USTA Senior Player of the Year (NorCal). Nationally Ranked from 1992-1998 with a high of # 5 Men's 35 Doubles (1992) and # 7 Men's 40 Doubles (1998). USPTA Certified P-1 Professional. USPTA Regional Director Northern California-Monterey Bay. Co-Director of Tony Trabert Tennis Camps. USA High Performance Coach.

Ric Foulger
Ric is a self-described "fundamentals guy" and considered by his peers to be a "master technician." A USPTA Certified P-1 Professional, Ric has been teaching since 1972 when he began his teaching career at the Seattle Tennis Club in Seattle, WA. He has been with the Salt Lake Tennis Club since 1997, after having been Head Tennis Pro at the Pacific Northwest Tennis Club and then moving to Salt Lake in 1983. Prior to joining our staff, Ric was a tennis pro at the Sports Mall as well as the owner of the Sports Mall Pro Shop. Anyone serious about improving their game (or their court attire) would benefit from time spent on the court with Ric; those who have studied with him extensively throughout the years have risen to the top of the game.

Ian Rothfels - Director of Adult Tennis
Ian has a practical and enthusiastic approach to coaching his players. This approach reflects Ian's philosophy that the rewards of tennis come in different forms for different players. He believes that focusing on strong fundamentals is the key to his players' success. These fundamentals include proper grip, racquet preparation, footwork, conditioning, and strategy. Ian's goal is to tailor his lessons to meet the needs of his players by building their strengths and improving their weaknesses. Ian is a USPTA member. In addition, he is former McIntosh Sportsmanship Award winner (1971), former Intermountain Junior Champion (1973), and former Co-Head Pro of the Salt Lake Tennis Club (1978). Ian's strong tennis roots and talent, -combined with a genuine, sincere interest in people, are part of what makes him an outstanding teacher and coach.
